The Calm Within: At Home with Josephine Skriver

Josephine Skriver and Alexander DeLeon have crafted a Los Angeles retreat that effortlessly blends Scandinavian simplicity with the warmth of family life.

For Danish supermodel Josephine Skriver and her husband, musician Alexander DeLeon, home is much more than a physical space—it’s an intimate reflection of who they are and what they value. “Home is a feeling,’ she explains. “It’s where you feel content, grounded, and entirely you. Whether through carefully chosen furniture, artwork, or the energy a house gives off, it’s about creating that sense of comfort and belonging. That’s what we’re all searching for.”

Upon stepping through the front door, Josephine's first instinct is to kick off her shoes, toss them aside, and collapse onto the couch, where she waits for her cat, Taka, to greet her. “It’s my ritual,” she shares. “The moment I walk in, I feel a wave of relaxation. It’s the one place where I can truly breathe deeply and unwind.” This simple routine reflects the essence of home for the couple—a place of contemplation amidst the busy pace of life.

If Josephine were to summarise the atmosphere of their home in one word, it would be “serene”. The house radiates calm, thanks to its soft colour palette, gentle textures, and architectural features such as arched doorways that create a sense of fluidity and ease.

“We wanted a space where we could enjoy the sound of birds outside, gaze out at the ocean, and feel enveloped in light and softness.”

When it comes to design, Josephine and Alexander’s styles beautifully contrast yet complement each other. “My style is very Scandinavian—clean and natural,” Josephine explains. In contrast, Alex brings an edgier, more artistic influence into the mix, drawing from his love for rock-and-roll and brutalist elements. Their home is a harmonious blend of these two perspectives, where Josephine’s neutral tones serve as a backdrop for Alexander’s statement pieces and artwork.

Despite its location in the hills of Los Angeles, the house’s architecture strongly reflects Mediterranean influences. “The structure of the house has this Mediterranean feel, and we wanted to honour that,” Josephine says. “But I also wanted to bring in my Scandinavian roots, so most of our furniture is from Danish brands.” For Josephine, Scandinavian design is about two key elements: simplicity and cosiness. These principles guide her design choices, and the couple has also included modern art pieces that add a more personal, abstract twist to the space.

Since becoming parents, Josephine and Alex have come to see their home in a new light. “After having Aurora, we realised that a home is really the backdrop for your family’s story,” Josephine reflects. As parents, they’ve become more mindful of practicalities—avoiding sharp edges and choosing durable furniture—but they see these details as part of the charm that comes with family life.

“The home is the backdrop for your family’s story. It’s the canvas for all the moments, big and small, that shape your life together. Every piece within it becomes an extension of who you are, and the home itself becomes a vessel, witnessing and embracing your growth each day.”

Despite the busy energy of having a young child, Josephine and Alex have worked hard to maintain a relaxing atmosphere in their home. “With a one-year-old, it’s never completely calm, but we love it that way,” Josephine shares. They’ve chosen furniture that’s as comfortable as it is stylish and soft, with soothing colours that create a sense of tranquillity. Music also plays a big part in their lives, with several areas of the house dedicated to listening to records or playing instruments. “We chose a home with a view, where we can’t hear the noise of traffic, and that makes such a difference,” Josephine adds.

ferm LIVING has played an important role in the couple’s home, blending perfectly with their unique style. In the office—one of Alexander’s favourite rooms—the bold black and white Rico Lounge Chair with Louisiana upholstery adds personality and sits beneath his guitar and a favourite art piece. Meanwhile, the Oyster Table Lamps bring a moody, artistic vibe. Josephine’s favourite pieces are the Pond Mirror and Hebe Floor Lamp—both playful and asymmetrical, bringing a touch of joy to the home.

One of their favourite rooms is Aurora’s nursery, a space that reflects both serenity and imagination. “It’s soft and playful,” Josephine says, “calm but full of life.” Aurora’s room was designed as a reflection of both her name and the meaningful story behind her parents' journey. “Alex and I got engaged in Finland during a trip to Norway and Finland, where we were searching for orcas to free dive with and hoping to witness the northern lights,” Josephine shares. “Given that connection, we knew we wanted her room to be inspired by a mix of Sleeping Beauty—whose name is Aurora—and Arctic and marine creatures.”

The room is filled with whimsical details, from a polar bear rug to bookshelves stocked with stories in both Danish and English. Scandinavian design is present throughout the room, with playful elements like her Little Architect Table and Chair, polar-bear-shaped Animal Tufted Rug, rustic Verso Baskets and a set of ceramic ‘doughnut’ letters spelling out her name. “We wanted to bring in as much Scandinavian influence as possible while still making sure the space was filled with opportunities for fun, play, and imagination,” Josephine explains.

For Josephine and Alexander, their Los Angeles home is a retreat where the beauty of simplicity meets the warmth of family. Every room is an expression of their values, offering a space that nurtures both peace and play. Their home is a reflection of their journey, and its walls will continue to embrace the memories and moments that define their family’s future.
