Our Production

Where: Bhadohi, India
Employees: 1200
Established in: 1947

Located in a small town in India, the region of Bhadohi is locally known as ‘carpet city’, and is known as a cottage industry for handmade rugs. The region has a rich history and culture for weaving, a skill which has been refined over many generations.

Producing all of our rugs and majority of textiles, all of the different stages of production are done by hand, making each rug unique. The factory has 900 Punja looms, 100 handlooms, 100 power looms and 5 van de Wiele machines. With a workforce comprised of 65% women, this factory is the largest employer of women in the region. The factory has ergonomically modified looms that are better adapted to female workers and provides on-site child day care services for those with young children. The wool used in production is sourced from their own or selected local mills that are dedicated to yarn production, with the woolen fibres coming from India, New Zealand and Europe. The majority of cotton is BCI-certified, while the innovative PET-yarn used to make our Way and Desert Chair series is made from recycled plastic bottles.

The factory is committed to several CSR-initiatives, which includes recruitment initiatives that provide female weavers with experience in handicraft from the home with training and development that leads to employment, a shuttle service to and from work for those employees that live far from the factory, as well as educational courses on health and personal hygiene.
